Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge is comprised of 35,0000 acres of mixed pine and hardwood forest, with bottomland hardwoods, creeks, streams and freshwater ponds. An abundance of wildlife species, including white-tailed deer, wild turkey and the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, make their home on the refuge. Visitor opportunities include hiking, wildlife viewing, scenic driving and limited hunting and fishing. The visitor center is open seven days a week, and features exhibits and foot trail access.
