The
Savannah International Airport, located in
Savannah, also serves Hilton Head and the Golden Isles -- St Simon Island, Sea Island, and Jekyl Island. The first airstrip in the Savannah area began operation in 1918. In 1929, Savannah Municipal Airport opened. Eastern Airlines provided service to Miami and New York.
