Thomasville is located in
Thomas County, of which it is the county seat, south of
Albany between Cairo and
Valdosta along Highway 319 near the Ochlockonee River in the
Southern Rivers Region of the state. Thomasville is situated just north of the Florida state line.
It was named after Gen. Jett Thomas and was a 19th-century resort. The grand hotel era ended when railroad transportation was extended into Florida.
