Uncle Remus Museum |
The museum is a log cabin made from two original Putnam County slave cabins. The building is similar to the one occupied by "Uncle Remus", the lovable character made famous by author, Joel Chandler Harris, who was born and raised in Eatonton. The museum site was a part of the original homeplace of Joseph Sidney Turner, "the little boy" in the tales told by Uncle Remus. Inside the museum you will find wood carvings of "de critters", Joel Chandler Harris' first editions, Uncle Remus mementos and many other items reminiscent of the era.
