This was the first major government building built by the native monarchy. It has housed the Hawaii Supreme Court since its construction in 1874, and is also known as the Judiciary Building.
Designed as a royal residence by its Australian architect, it was never used for that purpose. Sanford Dole proclaimed the establishment of a provisional government and the overthrow of the monarchy on the steps in 1893.
The building has a distinctive clock tower and stained glass skylights.
