Habilitat, founded by Vinny Marino in 1971, is a long term residential program built on the 'Therapeutic Community' model, which is the most effective method of treatment for substance abuse and chemical addictions. It utilizes two ancient Hawaiian traditions in its treatment phase - the 'ohana' that includes relatives, friends, or foster families who help when the biological parents cannot handle the child for one reason or another, and the 'ho oponopono', which is Habilitat's 'family meeting', where gripes are aired or discussed, thereby creating better communication between family members or friends. It also offers a physical fitness program, which consists of a fully equipped gym, with jacuzzi and steam room, and a state-of-the-art aerobics studio.
