The Hawaii Maritime Center, opened in 1988, is located at Pier 7 on
Honolulu Harbor, which was the international steamship pier one hundred years ago.
Aloha Tower Marketplace, built in 1926, was the tallest building in
Honolulu at the time.
This is the site of the Maritime Center. Surrounded by water, the Hawaiian islands could only be reached by boat before the era of the airplane. The exhibits include the "Falls of Clyde", a four masted square rigger now used as a museum.
The Kalakaua Boat House has exhibits from whaling days, the history of the busy harbor and exhibits of ocean-going canoes. There is a double-hull canoe used by the Polynesian Voyaging Society's replication of ocean travel.
To top it off, open air restaurants complete the scene here at the "Crossroads of the Pacific". Admission is charged and it is open daily 9am to 5pm.
