`Iolani Palace was the official residence of King Kalakaua and Queen Kapi`olani from 1882 until the King's death in 1891. The Palace then served as the official home of Kalakaua's sister and successor, Queen Lili`uokalani, until the Hawaiian monarchy was overthrown in 1893.

The Grand Tour (approx. 90 minutes) includes an introductory video, an overview of the Palace Grounds, a guided tour of the restored first and second floors and a self-guided tour of the Palace Galleries. Tours begin every 30 minutes, Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am to 2 pm. Self-guided tours of the Palace Galleries only are also available. Reservations are recommended; ticket purchase is required. Children under age five are not permitted on the Grand Tour; all children are welcome to tour the Palace Galleries when accompanied by an adult. The Palace Shop is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. The Royal Hawaiian Band performs most Fridays on the `Iolani Palace grounds.
