Kaena Point is the westernmost tip of
Oahu Island. This park consists of an 853 acre strip of undeveloped coastline. The area is sacred to native who believed that sleeping souls could wander to the edge and leap into the endless night.
It is now a designated natural area reserve with a unique ecosystem in arid, windswept coastal dunes that are host to many rare plants. Seabirds nest in the area and dolphins and whales can be sighted offshore.
Yokohama Bay on the south side of the point is popular with surfers and boogie boarders in the winter months. There is an old railroad bed left over from the days of the Oahu Railroad that ran from Honolulu to Haleiwa.
