Kealia Ranch |
Hawaii has a rich paniolo (cowboy) heritage. Today, Kealia Ranch is involved in various diverse activities from ranching to wild game hunting to working to save endangered Hawaiian birdlife. The historic cowboy office has also been converted into a country store specializing in local crafts and provisions. Kealia Ranch in South Kona stretches from the shores of the Pacific Ocean to high on the slopes of Mauna Loa. This working cattle ranch consists of several square miles of diverse and unique terrain and a plentiful supply of birdlife and game. Hunting opportunities abound and include turkey, kalij pheasant, wild boar, and at higher elevations feral sheep and goat as well as the elusive Mouflon sheep. There are even wild Vancouver bulls, a rarity nowadays. Kealia Ranch also conducts all day and half day tours over its diverse terrain, using four wheel drive vehicles.
