Muliwai Trail-Big Island

Located in the Waipio and Waimanu Valleys. 19 miles from Waipio Valley Lookout. This is a long 12 hour difficult hike. Trail guide is available. Walk four wheel drive road to valley floor, turn right along beach to stream. Follow stream and horse trail to western side of valley for the beginning of the Muliwai Trail. This trail zig-zags up wall of Waipio, then leads across plateau to Waimanu crossing twelve 500 foot gulches before descending into Waimanu Valley. Overnight camping in designated areas with permit.
