Pahoa is located in Hawaii County on the western side of the Hawaii the Big Island, between Keaau and Kaniahiku Village along Highway 130 near the Nanawale Forest Reserve, the MacKenzie State Recreation Area, and the Lava Tree State Monument.Pahoa has wooden sidewalks and storefronts dating back 100 years, and is home to the Akebono Theater, which is the oldest in the state.
