Now located on blocks near the town of Pahoa on Hwy 130 on the road back to
Hilo from the
Puna coast, this church originally was built in the town of Kalapana. But a series of lava flows repeatedly threatened the church.
Lava flows finally closed portions of the Chain of Craters Rd and the the church was moved. The small structure with a white steeple contains religious frescoes painted in bright primary colors on the walls and ceilings.
The trip back to Hilo on Hwy 130, which joins Hwy 11 at Keaau, takes about 45 minutes.
