Palaau State Park |
Located about 3 miles north of Kualapuu on Hwy 470. It overlooks the Makanalua Peninsula and Kalaupapa 1,600 feet below, which can be reached by hiking down a trail. A second trail leads to Phallic Rock.
Phallic Rock is a natural formation that became a shrine where island women prayed for fertility. Picnicking and camping are permitted. Jack London Trail is a departure point for mule trips down to Kalaupapa.
The park is open 24 hours and donations are accepted. It sits on 233 acres in the middle of the island.
