Pali Hwy

The Pali Hwy (Hwy 61), on Oahu Island, cuts through the Koolau Mtns after coming out of Honolulu to the Lunalilo Freeway. The highway descends to the Kailua area after passing Ulu Po Heiau.

The route is popular with people who live in Kailua. The original route ran along the cliffs and was widened into a carriage road. In the 1950's, tunnels were dug through the Koolau Mtns and the Old Pali Hwy was abandoned (called Nuuanu Pali Dr).
