Pacific Tsunami Museum

Tsunamis in 1946 and 1960 caused massive destruction and loss of life in the Hilo area. Visit Hilo's Pacific Tsunami Museum and learn how underwater earthquakes or volcanic action can generate these large ocean waves. Attractions include a Keiki (children's) corner, Ocean Science Theater, and Laupahoehoe and Papua New Guina exhibits. You may even be able to meet and hear stories from survivors of tsunamis who serve as docents.
