Volcano House |
This current lodge is across the street from the Volcano Art Center. Built in 1941, it has 42 rooms, an imposing stone fireplace, the Ka Ohelo Dining Room and a snack bar. During the day, tour groups visit the restaurant and it can be busy.
But in the evenings when the crowds thin out, dinner can be a delightful experience. Fresh fish such as mahi florentine and prime rib beef are specialties, with desserts made from local mountain berries.
Banquets up to 150 diners can be arranged. The restaurant looks out on the Kilauea Crater in a mountain lodge setting. Reservations are advised.
