Wailua Falls is approximately five miles north of Lihue on the Wailua River. Native chiefs dove over the cliffs in ancient time to prove their courage. Only royalty were considered sufficiently courageous and powerful to perform this test. The 80 foot falls were shown during the opening credits of the TV show "Fantasy Island".
