Altoona

Altoona is located in Polk County in the Central Region part of Iowa, east of Des Moines. Altoona is part of the Des Moines, Iowa metro area.

The city name derives from Latin for "high," because the town was on a high point along the Des Moines Valley Railroad.

Attractions include Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino and Adventureland Park.
