Farm House Museum |
The Farm House Museum was originally a home for Iowa State College's farm superintendent. It was also home to two college presidents and later deans of agriculture. It was built from 1860-64 using local materials on the original 648 acre prairie, acquired as the founding site for the then new Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm, on what is now the Iowa State University campus. Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1965, the Farm House interior was restored in the 1970s and furnished with Victorian era furnishings reflecting the period 1860-1910. The Farm House Museum appears as a home of the era, which housed deans, visiting college dignitaries, and students. The Farm House Museum and its permanent collection and period rooms are on continuous viewing.
