Challis Idaho

Fourteen miles west of Grand View Canyon on US 93, the town of Challis has a mile-high elevation. Once connected by a toll road to Custer, Challis became a trading center for nearby mines. At present, molybdenum is being mined in the area and used as a hardening agent for steel. Challis is the county seat of Custer County.
