Gibbonsville Idaho

Lewis and Clark passed through what is now Gibbonsville in Lemhi County in 1805 on their epic journey to the Pacific Coast. Population in the 1880s was in excess of 3000. Now only the ghost of the miners linger in the ten miles of tunnels in the hills surrounding Gibbonsville. Mining essentially ended in the 1930s. Present population is around 100. It lies near the Montana line on US 93 north of Salmon.
