Ricks College, a Mormon-owned Community College, became Brigham Young University-Idaho in June of 2000 is located in Rexburg, Madison County, ID, and has an enrollment of about 8700. Student housing is available for 1357.

The change to BYU-Idaho includes phasing out the school's highly touted intercollegiate athletics program "and shift its emphasis to a year-round activity program designed to involve and meet the needs of a diverse student body". The decision to do away with the athletic program was made because it takes "too much money and a great amount of time and energy."
