Mountain Home was once a shipping station for over one million pounds of sheep wool annually. Ranching operations continue, but the town is now better known for the Mountain Home Air Force Base ten miles west of town. Each year, an air show in Mountain Home celebrates Air Force Appreciation Day.Group tours of the base are available. A two week advance notice is required. Between Boise and Mountain Home, the four main east-west routes crossing the broad expanse of Idaho, I-84, Hwys US 20/26 and US 30 all combine as a single freeway. Mountain Home is the county seat of Elmore County. There is also a Mountain Home, North Carolina.
