The county seat of
Owyhee County, Murphy is located on Hwy 78, 28 miles from
Nampa.
It is perhaps the nation's smallest county seat. With a population of 50, it governs 7,639 square miles. The town grew up around the railhead of the Boise, Nampa and Owyhee Railroad, the county's first railroad. Its central location won it both the county seat and the Owyhee County Museum.
