Payette Idaho |
The seat of the county it's named for, Payette is located at the confluence of the Snake River and Payette River in southwestern Idaho. It lies on US 95 and Hwy 52, almost on the Oregon border.
The community grew out of a construction camp for the Oregon Shortline Railroad in the 1880s. Originally called "Boomerang," the town was later renamed after Francois Payette, a French-Canadian fur trapper and the area's first settler.
Harmon Killebrew, a member of the baseball Hall of Fame, came from Payette.
