Stanley Idaho

Stanley, Idaho (Cities) image Captain John Stanley, a Civil War veteran, was the patriarch of a prospecting party that traveled from Warren to the Stanley Basin in 1863. The placer gold they found in the streams was insignificant, but the party's leader left his name in Stanley Basin.

The small mountain community is located at the junction of Hwys 21 and 75, in the heart of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area in Custer County. Redfish Lake visitor's center is nearby.
