Teton Flood Museum

The Old LDS Tabernacle

Construction of the church was begun in 1911. Rock was quarried by volunteers at a site four miles SE of Rexburg. The church, which had been added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, was sold by the congregation to the city in 1978.

On June 5, 1976, the Teton Dam collapsed, sending 80 billion gallons of water into Rexburg and the valley. Much of Rexburg was destroyed, but within two years the areas was cleaned and rebuilt.

The Teton Flood Museum, located in the old tabernacle, offers artifacts and pictorial displays of the disaste. Tours to the actual flood site are an option.

The hours of the museum are as follows: September to April: Monday through Friday 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. May to August: Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. June to August: Saturdays 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
