Dixon

Boyhood home of Ronald Reagan

Dixon is located in northwest Illinois in Lee County (of which it is the county seat) southwest of Rockford along Highway 2 on the banks of the Rock River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 15,374, an increase of 240 since 1990.

Ronald Reagan called Dixon home in his early childhood and his homestead is now preserved, serving as the town's Visitor's Center.

Dixon's Sauk Valley Community College serves as the area's continuing education venue. For outdoor enthusiasts, Castle Rock State Park and White Pines Forest State Park are located only minutes north of town.

For trivia buffs, the only statue of Abraham Lincoln in a military uniform is located in downtown Dixon.
