Forest City is located in central Illinois in Mason County south of Peoria between Havana and Pekin along Highway 4 near Chautauqua Lake and east of the Illinois River. It is just east of Sand Ridge State Forest and south of Spring Lake State Park. The forest promotes camping, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and bird watching, among other activities.The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 338, an increase of 17 since 1990.
