Largest of all the state forests in Illinois, Sand Ridge State State Forest covers 7,100 acres of native oak-hickory forests and pine plantations. Just 25 miles southwest of Peoria, Sand Ridge supports diverse desert flora and fauna in its sandy landscape and also offers a variety of recreational opportunities. While visiting the park, be sure to stop by the contemporary Jake Wolf Memorial Fish Hatchery, which has an excellent visitor center showcasing fishery management in Illinois.
