Franklin Grove is located in northern Illinois in Lee County
about 10 miles east of Dixon
along Interstate 88
. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,403, an increase of 435 since 1990.
Noted area attractions include the Nachusa Grasslands--1,000 acres of oak savannas, rolling hills, sandstone outcropings, wetlands and native bluestem prairie grass. Activities such as birding, hiking and photography are encouraged.
Local event highlights include the annual Franklin Grove "Summer Harvest Festival" usually held during the first weekend of August. Activities include an old-time Barn Dance, antique equipment show, Atlatl (a mechanized lightweight dart) competition and, of course, food booths galore.
