Lockport is located in northeastern Illinois in Will County about 25 miles southwest of Chicago and 5 miles northeast of Joliet along Highway 171 and the Des Plaines River/I & M Canal.The historic city was part of the burgeoning scene that was the growth of Chicago in the mid-1800s by virtue of the canal and its link to the Mississippi River. Architectural styles of the downtown area include Greek Revival, Romanesque and Victorian. In addition, dolomite limestone grain warehouses dot the waterfront.
