Louisville is located in south central Illinois in central
Clay County, (of which it is the county seat), about 25 miles south of
Effingham on U.S. Highway 45 along the banks of the Little
Wabash River. The population estimate for 2000 was about 1,300.
The rural area, noted for its upland game bird hunting, hosts a section of the Bird Dog Field Trials usually held around the first of March.
