Matteson is located in northeastern Illinois in Cook County just south of the Chicago city limits between Joliet and Chicago Heights at the U.S. Highway 30/Interstate 57 interchange. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 12,490, an increase of 1,112 since 1990.The town promotes itself through such festivals as "MattesonFest", held the first weekend in June.
