Owned by the Galena Hospital District, the Galena-Stauss Hospital and Healthcare Center is governed by a Board of Directors, which consist of nine members from the East and West Galena Townships.
What once started out as a general acute care hospital in 1962 has now grown into a 25-bed hospital offering three levels of care - - acute, skilled, and intermediate. To help meet the demand for long-term care for the elderly, the hospital added a nursing home win in 1971 with a major expansion in 1988 to a current capacity of 57-beds.
Located in the heart of Galena, the hospital is conveniently designed with the nursing home and even a well-established physician office building, all attached. Located in the lower level of the physician office building is Taylor Physical Fitness. Also located within the immediate area are offices of dentists, mental health counselors and an optometrist.
