The Moingwena were an Algonquin tribe within the The Illiniwek Confederacy that also included The Kaskaskia, The Peoria, The Cahokia, The Tamaroa and The Michigamea.

When Louis Joliet and Pere (Father) Jacques Marquette first made contact with these First Nation tribes in 1673, the Moingwena were situated on the west side of the Mississippi River near the mouth of the Des Moines River and present-day Keokuk.
