Morrison is located in northwestern Illinois in western
Whiteside County (of which it is the county seat) about 15 miles west of
Sterling north of the
Rock River and about 10 miles east of the
Mississippi River. The population estimate 2000 was about 4,500.
Morrison-Rockwood State Park provides the area with numerous recreational opportunities and is located just north of town on Rock Creek. In addition, Cross Creek Golf Club is set to take on golfers of all skill levels.
Major events in town include "Paint the Town" where 5 blocks of a street are blocked off for families and individuals put art on pavement in 5- x 5-foot squares surrounded by aisles used as workspace. The event is designed to heighten awareness of the arts in children as well as adults. Morrison also hosts the Whiteside County Fair each August featuring live music, tractor pull, petting zoo and a demolition derby to supplement the main attraction--the carnival.
