Peru

Peru is located in central Illinois in La Salle County just west of La Salle along Interstate 80 on the banks of the Illinois River about 20 miles northwest of Goose Lake.

South Bluff Country Club provides an outlet for golfers wishing to get in a quick 9 or 18 holes. Other outdoor recreation with 20 miles includes Buffalo Rock State Park & Effigy Tumili, Illini State Park, Matthiesen State Park and Starved Rock State Park.

Illinois Valley Community College provides the town with post-high school education including classes designed for adults.

The population estimate for 2000 was about 9,800.
