Sandwich is located in northern Illinois in the southeast corner of DeKalb County about 20 miles south-southeast of DeKalb. The population estimate for 2000 was about 6,600.
The town invites visitors to shoot a round of golf at Edgebrook Country Club. Other outdoor recreation in the area includes trips to Silver Springs State Park about 5 statute miles to the east-southeast of town and Shabbona Lake State Park 15 miles to the northwest.
Town-sponsored festivals include "Freedom Days" held on the 4th of July weekend and "Sandwich Fair", known as the "Grandmother of Fairs" as it is the oldest continuous fair in the Midwest, held around the Labor Day weekend time frame.
