Named in memory of troops killed in World War I, this stadium was built in three stages beginning in 1922 and ending in 1939 at a cost of $13 million. It officially opened as Grant Park Municipal Stadium in October of 1924 with seating for 45,000. In 1925, at the urging of the parents of those killed in World War I, the name was changed to "Soldiers' Field". The name was changed again the following year and dedicated during the Army-Navy game in November.

Over the years adaptations have been made to accomodate larger crowds. A new stadium was completed at a cost of $606 million in 2003. With modern conveniences such as deluxe sky-box suites, Soldier Field now holds about 70,000 for football games and about 105,000 people for events such as rock concerts and political rallies. Some of many highlights include the hosting for the World Cup Soccer games 1994 and the Women's World Cup in 1999.
