South Holland is located in northeastern Illinois in
Cook County just south of
Chicago between
Harvey and
Calumet City along U.S. Highway 6 on the banks of the Little Calumet River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 21,794, a decrease of 311 since 1990.
One of the anticipated events of late summer is the "Heritage Festival" which is a 5-day event held the weekend of Labor Day and includes activities such as an art show, a large block party, lighted parade, children's garage sale with young merchants in the 7-12-year old age group, climbing wall, Bocce ball tournament, Civil War camp reinactment, fireworks, quilt works and much more.
