Toulon Illinois

Toulon is located in western Illinois in Stark County (of which it is the county seat) about 20 miles north-northwest of Peoria and 10 miles south-southeast of Kewanee along Highway 17 about 5 miles west of the Spoon River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,286, a decrease of 42 since 1990.

The county is named for John Stark (1728-1822) who was a Lieutenant in the French & Indian War (1755). He later was promoted to Colonel and served at Bunker Hill in 1775 during the American Revolution, representing New Hampshire.
