Vandalia Illinois

Vandalia is located in southwestern Illinois in Fayette County (of which it is the county seat) about 65 miles east-northeast of St Louis along Interstate 70 on the banks of the Kaskaskia River south of Vandalia Lake and 15 miles northeast of Carlyle Lake. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 6,583, an increase of 469 since 1990.

Nearby outdoor recreation includes Carlyle Lake SFWA and Stephen A. Forbes State Park. In addition, golfers can challenge Vandalia Country Club.
