Wheaton, founded in 1837 by Erastus Gary and Jesse and Warren Wheaton, is located in northeastern Illinois in DuPage County just west of Chicago and just north of Naperville to the west of Interstate 355 along Highway 38. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 55,308, an increase of 3,867 since 1990.
The city is the home of the aptly named and highly respected Wheaton College. In addition, Wheaton can claim more churches per capita than any other city in America. The Billy Graham Center Museum is located on the College campus and reveals the history of evangelism and revivalism in our country.
Wheaton is proud to have Cantigny within its boundaries. This impressive 500-acre estate was the home of Col. Robert R. McCormick, former editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune.
