Cantigny

Located in northeastern Illinois in DuPage County, Cantigny is the 500-acre estate of the late Colonel Robert R. McCormick, editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune and a member of the First Infantry Division, also known as the "Big Red One", of the U.S. Army. McCormick left the estate "...for the recreation, instruction and welfare of the people of the state of Illinois." The property includes a 35-room mansion, 10 acres of formal gardens, wooded walks, picnic facilities and a museum dedicated the the 1st Division. Outdoor concerts are held on the grounds at the gazebo during the summer on Sunday afternoons. Free admission.

In addition, a 27-hole golf course challenges all skill levels. Juniors (ages 8 to 15) can take advantage of an introductory 9-hole course complete with its own clubhouse and pro shop. Clay tennis courts and a restaurant, "Fairways", completes the extensive layout.
