Michigan City Indiana

Michigan City is located in La Porte County about halfway between Gary and South Bend along US Highway 20 just off of Interstate 94. Michigan City is next to Lake Michigan and Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Michigan City was incorporated in 1836. The rugged beauty, abundance of wildflowers and berries, and especially the extraordinary sand dunes fascinated early visitors to the region.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 32,626, a decrease of 1,196 since 1990.
