Designed by Philip Cortelyou Johnson, the roofless church consists of a walled garden 130 feet wide by 230 feet wide. Commissioned by Mrs. Jane Blaffer Owen, descendant of Robert Owen who purchased the town of Harmonie from George Rapp in 1824, for purposes of accommodating angels should they descend on the banks of the Wabash River. The church has many beautiful elements including the awe-inspiring 50-foot dome that closely resembles Ibscacan architecture. Inside the dome is a bronze statue created by Jacques Li pchitz aptly named "The Descent of The Holy Spirit."
