Carlow Golf Club's 8th fairway is situated on the N9 (Dublin Road), in County Carlow and 2 miles north of Carlow town. Carlow Golf Club is a parkland course, 18 holes, par 70 and 5,974 metres, and is laid out in a former wild deerpark over undulating terrain with numerous elevated tees, several excellent dog-legs, and small slick putting surfaces. With sandy subsoil Carlow is an inland links and is playable twelve months of the year, and a plugged ball is almost unheard of. There are many long par 4's, and the 16th, a very demanding two shotter, played through a tunnel-like valley, has been described as the foremost 16th hole in Ireland.
