Kilcock, a small town in
Leinster Province, at the northern edge of
County Kildare near the border with
County Meath, can trace its history to the pre-Christian era. Its name is derived from the Irish 'Cill Coca' the Church or Cell of Coca. An early Christian missionary, St. Coca, founded the first Church in Kilcock circa 550 A.D. The outer edge of the mediaeval town that spread over 14 acres surrounding the church is now a system of circular streets around the town centre.
